Our Awards & Recognition
Spacemakers Bristol has been recognised locally and regionally for our work in activating public spaces, supporting young people, and building community pride in Hartcliffe & Withywood, Bristol. Our awards reflect the dedication of volunteers, partners, and residents who help shape our projects year after year.
Innovation in Community Regeneration – September 2008
In September 2008, Spacemakers Bristol received recognition for Innovation in Community Regeneration, highlighting its youth-led approach to transforming public space in Hartcliffe, Bristol.
The award recognised how young people were placed at the centre of the regeneration process — identifying the space, shaping the design, and helping deliver lasting improvements within Wilmott Park.
This early recognition demonstrated how community participation, creativity, and education could be combined to successfully regenerate a neglected public space.
Lord Mayor’s Award – April 2023
The award acknowledged the hard work of local residents and volunteers — especially the way the project brought people together to regenerate public space, inspire young people, and foster community pride in Hartcliffe.
Your Park Awards for Bristol Young Volunteers of the Year 2023
In February 2024, young volunteers involved in the Safer Streets Graffiti Project were recognised at the Your Park Awards as Bristol Young Volunteers of the Year.
The award celebrated the commitment, creativity, and positive contribution of young people who helped transform the Spacemakers area of Wilmott Park through community-led artwork and active participation.
What These Awards Mean to Us
Each award and recognition we have received underscores the power of local people working together for positive change. They are not just accolades — they are reminders of what’s possible when residents, schools, partners, and volunteers put community first.
From planting gardens to designing graffiti art, from hosting family events to investing in park equipment, our journey is one of collaboration, creativity, and shared pride in place.
What This Recognition Represents
This award belongs to the community. It reflects the time, energy, and care given by local people who chose to get involved, take ownership, and work together to improve a shared space.
For Spacemakers, recognition like this reinforces the value of community-led approaches and the importance of listening to local voices when shaping public spaces.
Looking Ahead
While we are grateful for recognition, our focus remains on delivering meaningful projects that respond to local needs. We continue to work with residents, schools, and partners to build on what has been achieved and ensure Spacemakers remains an active and welcoming place for the community.
